A rock slide forced the closure of Kahekili Highway at Mile Post 37 in Kapalua on Thursday evening, according to the Maui Police Department.
Police announced shortly after 6 p.m. that the road had been closed and that cleanup would take an estimated two hours.
However, the road was still closed as of 8:15 p.m. as police waited for the state Department of Transportation Highways Division to arrive for cleanup, a police spokesperson said late Thursday evening.
Motorists were asked to avoid the area.
