A funeral for Officer McDaniel was held over the weekend at Real Life Ministries Post Falls.

According to a recent press release, the City of Post Falls Police Department reports that at 4:40 p.m. on Sunday, after completing a call for service, Officer Nicholas McDaniel failed to respond to a status check from its Communications Center.

Officers were dispatched to Officer McDaniel's last known location, where they found him slumped over the wheel of his police vehicle. The officers on scene immediately started CPR until Kootenai County Fire and Rescue arrived and transported Officer McDaniel to Kootenai Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased.

The cause of death has been determined to be a massive heart attack.

Officer McDaniel was 36 years old and had worked for the Post Falls Police Department for a little under a year, with 13 years served previously in Hawaii.

"I would like to thank all the surrounding law enforcement, fire and medical agencies, as well as our local community, for their unwavering support while our department mourns the loss of a family member," says Greg McLean, City of Post Falls Police Department Chief of Police. "Please keep Officers McDaniel's fiancé and children in your thoughts and prayers as they try to cope with the loss of their loved one."

Mayor Jacobson commented, "We are proud of the time that Officer McDaniel gave serving our citizens and fellow colleagues at the City of Post Falls. There are no words that can make this loss easier to bear for Officer McDaniel's family and colleagues. As a city, we mourn Officer McDaniel's death deeply, and our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and colleagues."
